Wendy Shay has triumphed once again as one of Ghana’s leading musicians. The Ghanaian singer took to Instagram on Sunday, 17 May 2020 to share her latest news, which saw her taking the 57th spot on New Zealand’s top 100 YouTube Global Charts with her single, All For You. Further, Wendy was acknowledged as the only Ghanian or West African musical artist to be listed at the 154th position on Apple’s Shazam New Zealand top 200 Charts.
Wendy captioned the post with, “We act local but we think GLOBAL… GLOBAL CHAMPION. The internet doesn’t lie… some artists can run to Google translate, but can’t google my successes… lazy artist, I have something for you to translate again… #SHAYGANG #GLOBALCHAMPION”. The second half of her caption was written in German, as an attempt to prove that other artists will take the time to translate what she has written, but will not take the time to acknowledge her successes.
The singer’s comment section did not join in the celebration, with many sharing negative remarks towards her. The backlash follows Wendy’s self-proclaimed millionaire statement which left a bitter taste in the mouths of her many fans. One commentator stated, “Why you are bragging about a random list from a random country. If it was local, then sure. Meanwhile, celebrate in New Zealand with your millions. Oh, wait?? LMAO.”
