Better known by her stage name, Sister Derby is a television show host, model, musician, academic and a graphic artist.

Sister Derby has prove time and time again that she's a multi faceted queen who own her throne. Her music is loved by many and she keeps releasing greaat hit after great hit.

Sister Derby Early Life

She was born Deborah Vanessa Owusu-Bonsu to an Ashanti father and a Romanian mother. Her parents were also lovers of music which made it easy for her to follow the same career path.

Her looks and beauty have often been attributed to her mother who's Romanian.

Sister Derby has a brother, Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu and is popularly known as Wanlov the Kubolor who starred in the film 'Coz Ov Moni'.

Sister Derby Education

Sister Derby went to Christ the King International School, then she attended Wesley Girls High School. 

For her tertiary education she attended the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Publishing Studies. This was followed by a Master degree in in Book/Journal Publishing from the University of the Arts in London. 

Sister Derby Relationship

Sister Derby was once romantically involved with Medikal. However, the relationship did not last and they broke up in 2018.

Sister Derby once expressed that although Medikal was younger than her, she admired that he was quite mature which is what attracted her to him. She also said that she had wanted to get married to Medikal.

However, Derby revealed that "a lack of respect" was her biggest relationship deal-breaker and added that whilst she didn't have a type, the "vibe" was most important to her when connecting with someone.

Sister Derby Career

In 2012, Sister Derby bagged a gig where she became the host of The Late Nite Celebrity Show program which aired on Ghana. She then moved to GHOne TV where she was the host of her own show Gliterrati and she later on handed the show to Berla Mundi.

She once released a song she titled 'Uncle Obama' which was dedicated to then US president, Barack Obama.

In 2015, she released a song that she said was a way of celebrating success and she titled it 'Kikoliko'. She featured Joey B on the song.

Sister Derby released the single 'Sweet Ex' and the fans loved it. However it turned out the song was a diss song - dedicated to her "sweet ex" Medikal and his new bride Fella Makafui.

With her prowess in the music industry, fans were demanding a hot collab between singing superstars Sister Derby and Davido who met in the streets of Accra.

2020 saw her release the single 'Chocolate' featuring BPM Boss which was instant hit and had fans immediately update their playlists.

Sister Derby Controversy

Sister Afia dropped a diss track that was aimed at Sister Derby and she did not hold back. In the song titled Wo Maame Twe (WMT), Afia fired shots at Derby accusing her of clout-chasing by trolling her ex Medikal and his new wife Fella Makafui, with whom she just so happened to be close friends with.

Sister Derby, subjected herself to some harsh criticism, when she posted a video of herself twerking on her bed. The singer was seen sprawled on her bed, sexily dancing to her own song, Sweet Ex, whilst fellow musician, Y’akoto supposedly filmed her.

One follower, Derrick Williams stated, “Waa look nonsense ... what are you shaking???? The flat plate looking bum anaa? Go dodge for some side let the chicks with proper bums come and shake theirs?”, to which sister Derby responded with, “She won’t dodge like you with your fake page biaaa go and vomit and die.”

However, a number of fans came to the singer's defence, with many ordering the haters to stop as she is just having fun.

Sister Derby Philanthropy

Her love for giving back to the community has seen her work in a number of charitable programs. She once supported the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation’s efforts to provide assistance to patients undergoing dialysis treatment.

Sister Derby also joined a Unilever campaign on the Global Hand Washing Day in 2015 at Kanda Cluster of Schools in Accra. She was also part of a UNICEF campaign video on cholera and Ebola prevention. 

Sister Derby Business

Sister Derby is focused on giving great music and she is set to keep delivering more great music for years to come.
