As an underground rapper in his early days, Sarkodie didn’t see himself at a point where he would be regarded as the leading MC in the country and become an award-winning global star with endorsements following his successes. 

The musician didn't relax and hope for an opportunity to come by his sight, instead - he worked hard to ensure that he reached the top niche through participating in everything he could get a chance to participate in.

Sarkodie Age

Sarkodie was born on the 10th of July in 1985. He is 36 years old. 

Sarkodie Family 

The rapper was born in Tema and is currently 36-year-old. He was named Michael Owusu Addo, by his parents. Mr and Mrs Addo. Sarkodie is the fourth born in his family. Little did they know that at one point he would become the richest musician in Ghana.

Sarkodie Marriage

Sarkodie married his longtime girlfriend, Tracy Owusu Addo on the 17th of July in 2018. Their wedding was rumoured to be one of the most expensive weddings to ever take place in Tema. The Addo family is blessed with a baby girl, Adalyn Owusu Addo.

Sarkodie Career

The rapper started his career as an undergraduate rapper where he appeared on various rap battles, Kasahare Level on Adom FM, where his journey began and they saw him become a champion in his neighbourhood of Tema. It was through these battles that Sarkodie met his Manger Duncan Williams, the owner of Duncwills Entertainment.

Sarkodie was fortunate to have also met Edem, Castro and other artists who introduced him to Hammer of Last Two, the producer who was responsible for his smash hits, Obrafour, Timmy, Kwaw, Kesse and Edem

The producer was impressed with the talents that he saw in Sarkodie, trusting his gut - he featured the upcoming Sarkodie on two songs in Ewe's album in 2008, Volta Regime. 

Following the results of this collaboration, Sarkodie gained his popularity and started working on his debut album, “Ma Kye“. The rapper earned awards through his work on his debut album, which was produced by JaySo and Jill Beats. Baby became a hit song of the album which led to Sarkodie becoming his everyday life. 

The rapper was awarded at the Ghana Music Awards for his debut album which dominated in the Artist of the Year, Discovery of the Year, Hip Hop Artist of the Year and has also won the Best Collaboration of the Year.

Sarkodie has been involved in the music industry since 2005 and ever since his debut album, the musician has managed to be recognized with 158 nominations and has won over 87 awards including some of the following awards. 

Sarkodie has been recognised by the following awards: MTV Base Africa Music Awards, BET Awards, The Headies Awards, MOBO Awards, Channel O Music Video Awards, Ghana Music Awards, All Africa Music Awards, MTV Europe

The collaborative album that he recorded with Jayso earned him an award at the 4Style Music Video Awards, the album also earned him a nomination at the Ghana Music Awards. Sarkodie was awarded the Best African Act at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

After the rapper released his studio album, Sarkology - in 2014, it earned him awards throughout the globe and he started getting recognized. The rapper was awarded 4 Ghana Music Awards, he saw himself nominated alongside the likes of Jay Z and Kanye West at the 2014 World Music Awards which were held in New York. He was also recognized by BET Awards by nominating him for Best International Act.

Sarkodie is constantly getting awards for his outstanding contributions in the music industry throughout Ghana and in Africa as a whole. He was awarded Artist of the Decade by Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The musician was also recognized by Afrobeats Music Awards for his continuous contributions 

The musician started getting decorated each time he would release a project. As he concluded 2014 with over 20 awards in a year including some of his African Muzik awards magazine Awards and the Headies.

Sarkodie  Philanthropy

The musician started The Sarkodie Foundation which is a non-profit organisation aimed at helping underprivileged children by donating with generous amounts to Royal Seed Home Orphanage, and he managed to help the kids get the essentials to get going about their day-to-day business. 

Sarkodie launched a campaign in 2014, which was focused on feeding children in Tema, where they provided kids with sacks of essentials, canned food, rice and also included educational packages such as school bags, books, bottles, hats and other household goods.

Sarkodie isn’t only a rapper but a reputable businessman in Tema and throughout Nigeria as he owns Yas Clothing which provides clothing and other accessories for Men, Women and Children. 

He was announced as the official brand ambassador for Samsung Electronics which was unveiled at the University of Ghana, Legon. Sarkodie later launched the Obidi Chief Headphones which led him to sign the deal with FanMilk in Ghana.

The rapper is currently in partnership with Ghana’s leading telecommunication, Tigo, which they have been seen to be working closely as this is the company that sponsored his Rapperholic Tour and Feed the Children Campaign. At least now we know how he maintains his spot as the richest musician in Ghana.

Sarkodie Controversy

Shatta Wale has been finding Sarkodie’s freestyle, Sub Zero - to be detrimental as some of the people are working but not putting anything out to the public.

The song is aimed at raising awareness about Covid-19, and ensuring that everyone does their part. However, the rapper, Shatta Wale found that to be condescending. 

Sarkodie was criticised on social media for the freestyle but his wife, Tracy - came in and vouched for him.

In his 15 years of activity, the musician, rapper and MC has an estimated net worth of $7 million and he is ranked to be in the Top 10 youngest rich musicians across Africa, and the richest musician in Ghana.  This is through his contributions in the music industry, endorsements and his clothing business. 

Considered to be one of the richest musicians in Ghana, Sarkodie does not seem to be slowing down and is purely focused on giving his fans what they want. Sarkodie is surely reaching newer heights and creating his working mechanism with infusing his creativity. Through this, he will be generating more money and become one of the most influential young.
