Growing up, D-Black worked on balancing his music career and worked on establishing himself as one of the notable businessmen in Ghana.

D-Black is a Ghanaian multiple award-winning Hip-hop and Afrobeat musician, entrepreneur, philanthropist & venture capitalist from Ghana, Africa.

D-Black Age

D-Black was born on the 12th of January 1987. He is 33-years-old. 

D-Black Early Life

D-Black was named Desmond Kwesi Blackmore on birth when he was born in Ghana. The musician is popularly known by his stage name D-Black and it became his household everyday name.

D-Black Education

D-Black did his formal studies at Ridge Church School.

He furthered his advance high school with Pope John Secondary School & Jnr Seminary.

After high school, he enrolled at the University of Cape Coast for a degree in B.A Economics and he also went to the University Of Ghana, Legon for a degree in BFA Theatre Arts / Music.

D-Black Career

In 2009, D-Black started his career in the group, “D-Black & Kwaku”. They released their debut album ‘Target Practice’. Through this album, they established their names as artists and the following year, they both had their solo careers ready to launch.

In 2010, D-Black went on a solo career and released his debut album 
  • Music, Love & Life, as a solo artist that same year. As people were already familiar with his name, he worked on growing his name so more through doing different features and continued working on his projects. 

He released his third studio album in 2012 titled the revelation and through that journey, he cemented his name as a rapper and business mogul. He worked with the likes of Sarkodie and giant artists in Ghana.

In the following years, D-Black released, Lightwork in 2016. In 2018, he then went on to release a mixtape titled, Hunger and Thirst. He did not stop giving the fans what they want and in 2019 he released his Extended Play, Smoke & Mirrors.

D-Black Awards

D-Black is an award-winning musician and a notable entrepreneur who has collected different form of awards including entrepreneurial awards that motivated him to keep pushing.

Through his musical journey, D-Black has been nominated for over 59 awards worldwide and won 23 of these awards since then including the 2011 BET Awards.  He continues working on his journey as a musician.

D-Black is a musician who has worked on becoming a giant business mogul in Ghana through his businesses. From media, clothing to a record label that is celebrated for bringing out many talents in the country, D-Black has made sure that he expands his brand.

Record label

D-Black is the owner of the Black Avenue Muzik record label. The record label is considered to be one of Ghana's most renowned record labels & music studios.

The record label has the renowned producer,  DJ Breezy. They work with the award-winning acts such as Sefa and upcoming rappers such as Ms Forson, Osayo & sultry female rapper Nina Ricchie.

Black Avenue Muzik is an award-winning record label and they won the award for the record label of the year at the 2018 Ghana - Naija Entertainment Awards in Lagos, Nigeria. Following their momentum, they were awarded record label of the year at the 2019 Ghana Entertainment Awards in New York. 


Upon releasing his debut album, he also introduced his Black Avenue Clothing (BAC) which is aimed to be a design company, marketer and importer of men and women's clothing internationally.

BAC is created to create and start selling great quality street gear for the young and trendy youth who have embraced hip-hop. 

Livewire events 

D-Black is also the CEO of Livewire Events, which is an events management company that was founded in 2015. 

Livewire Events in 2015 was one of the companies that brought a successful Boxing Fight at the Kumasi Sports Stadium when Bukom Banku had an incredible fight with Ayittey Powers. Through the fight, D-Black sold out over 20,000 tickets. 

Club Onyx

D-Black saw an opportunity of introducing a club and he successfully introduced a club in the city of Accra, where he called 'Club Onyx'.

Club Onyx has hosted numerous Ghanaian, Nigerian, Southern African celebrities and held some of the most amazing parties. It became one of the fast-growing brands and the club also has a branch in South Africa.  

Oasis Lounge

D-Black is the founder of the ‘Oasis Lounge’ in Ghana. The area is known for its accommodation courtesy with pools Sunday barbecue nights next to Club Onyx.

D-Black Brand Endorsement

D-Black signed a global publishing deal with the world’s biggest publishing company Sony/ATV in June 2020.

“D-Black’s skills and talents will be a great addition to the Sony/ATV family. We are excited to represent and partner with him in the next phase of his career” said Rowlin Naicker MD of Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

“I sincerely hope this signing showcases to Ghana our commitment to prioritize and work with Ghanaian songwriters and producers. Chale I am excited for what the future holds for us” said Munya Chanetsa the newly appointed A&R Manager: Africa

This is a move that will see his music taken to the global market. 

D-Black Controversy

Baffour Adjei Bawuah, Ghana's ambassador to the United States, had disclosed that Ghanaian artists Sarkodie and D-Black were not in the States after reports came in that they were stuck in the States due to border closure owing to COVID-19.

D-Black threw a subtle jab at the ambassador asking him whether California, where he is, was not part of the U.S.

D-Black said: "So me wey I de California nu, Eno be America?"

D-Black was also rumoured to be having a sexual relationship with Sefa, however, Sefa came out and denied the rumours. She said that her relationship with D-Black was strictly professional.

In 2020, Forbes Africa magazine in their June 2019 cover edition called him ‘The Creative in the numbers game’.

D-Black is multiple award-winning Ghanaian who has urged other artists that for them to make in this industry they also have to invest in other ventures besides music.
