Asamoah Gyan was born and raised in Accra, Greater Accra, Ghana. He is a son of Cecelia Amoako, his mother and his father, Baffour Gyan. He has two brothers, Baffour and Opoku Asamoah. 

Asamoah Gyan lost his mother in 2012 to an accident.

Asamoah was married to Gifty and they have three kids, Fredrick, Raphael and Floyd. The duo started dating in 2003 and they officially got married in 2013 after they gave birth to their last-born child.

Asamoah Gyan Divorce 


Gyan has filed for divorce from his wife Gifty Gyan whom they've been together for over 13 years in their marriage and had also asked for DNA for his children. This was after the footballer learned that Gifty was married before they started dating in 2003.

According to the marriage certificate provided on GhanaWeb.com - Gifty, also known as Sandra Gifty Gyamesi was married to her alleged husband Eugene Odame Antwi on 26th February 2002 at Tema Municipal Assembly.

Gyan admitted publicly that his marriage was facing hardships and had clarified that the process that is ongoing at the Accra High Court is not a petition for divorce but an annulment process. 

After running the DNA tests, Gyan is the father of three of his children but the footballer continued with his divorce and it has been two years since they finalized their divorce.

Asamoah Gyan Career


Asamoah Gyan is an alumni of the Ghanaian Accra Academy. He grew up with an interest being one of the elite footballers in the world. As someone who grew up being fascinated by the playing style of the likes of Ronaldinho and Zidane, he eventually started football seriously and he won laurels with the school before joining Liberty Professionals.

In 2003, the footballer joined Liberty Professionals and on his debut season - he scored 10 goals in 16 games in the Ghana Premier League and that led to a great response of his football prowess from different sports critics. 

Gyan played for Liberty Professionals for five years and has achieved great milestones and elevating his name to the upper leagues. On the 11th of July in 2008, the footballer joined the Ligue 1 club Rennes, in France. He played as their striker and continued to shine his name high. Gyan remained in the club for two years.

As a growing star, Gyan had played for two different leagues in Ghana and France. This time around, on the 31st of August in 2010 he joined the Premier League Club Sunderland - considered to be the most competitive football league in the world. 

Gyan had 36 appearances with Sunderland and he delivered 11 goals and he earned his starting lineup rights and had become one of the feared strikers due to his ball control ability and intelligence as a player.

Gyan joined Al Ain of the UAE Pro-League on loan from Sunderland on the 10th of September in 2011. The loan did wonders to his career. Gyan had his first season and dominated with scoring 24 goals in 27 matches. The following season led to Gyan unleashing his top goal-scoring mentality and became the league's top-goalscorer while he helped Al Ain retain the UAE Pro-League title. 

Gyan set a record of scoring 28 goals in 32 matches. But as it seemed, the footballer was the only player able to go after his record in the 2013–14 season - he had 44 goals in 40 matches.

Gyan joined the Ghana national team in 2003 at the age of 18. Today, Gyan is an all-time top goal scorer for the Ghana national football team. He has 51 goals.

Asamoah Gyan Business


Gyan started dedicating his focus on Promoting Boxing. He believes that Ghana has a lot of unattended talents on boxing and he believes through this journey, he will be creating some sort of hope for the sport to be fueled up to what it used to be.

He had his first boxing show on the 6th of July in 2012.  According to Gyan, “Ghana has had a lot of great boxers previously like Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and Joshua Clottey, so we need to push the young ones coming up. I would like to encourage the young ones coming up and those who want to achieve their aim.”
