Stonebwoy age, 34, is a big-time Afro-pop musician. He was born on 5 March 1988 in Ashaiman, South of Ghana as Livingstone Etse Satekla. That's Stonebwoy’s real name. He is the fourth born in a family of seven children.

Stonebwoy discovered his love for music when he was still young. School provided an avenue for him to explore this. He was part of the drama club and scripted for some of the performances.

Schooling

Stonebwoy went to Methodist Day High School. He was there with another popular musician, Sarkodie. He then proceeded to the University of Professional Studies. Stonebwoy graduated with a degree in marketing in 2013. 

Career

As mentioned, Stonebwoy immersed himself in music from the time he was in school. When he was in his first year in high school, he came across one of Ghana's most influential DJ/Presenter Doctor Duncan. His show helped bring up talents like Sarkodie and other notable names in the industry. 

Stonebwoy released his first radio piece “Makuma” when he was in his second year.“Empress” was his next song and is the one that sold Stonebwoy’s name.

2012 was a big year for Stonebwoy. He released his first single “Climax” featuring Samini, and “Ghetto Love” featuring Irene Logan. These songs hit the airwaves big time. Stonebwoy received nominations at the Ghana Music Awards.     

Stonebwoy wrapped up the year with his debut album, "Grade 1 Album". It contains seventeen tracks. If Stonebwoy hadn’t gained recognition already then this album cemented his name amongst the industry’s best. 

Stonebwoy released his second album “Necessary Evil” in 2014. It has 29 songs. This album won Stonebwoy three awards.

Three years later, Stonebwoy was at it again. He served fans with his third album, “Epistles of Mama” which has 24 tracks. This was a dedication to his mother Lucy Aku Ametepe Satkela. Stonebwoy managed to pull in some of the biggest names in this project. He worked with the likes of Burna Boy and Sean Paul. 

Stonebwoy's fourth album "Anloga Junction" came after three years after his third album. Again, he featured international acts like Diamond Platnumz, Keri Hilson, Kojo Antwi, Alicai Harley and Jahmiel.  

Stonebwoy is also the CEO of Buriton Music.

Stonebwoy's Foundation

Stonebwoy's Foundation, The Livingstone Foundation, focuses on helping people with disability. He drew this inspiration from his accident that left him limping. Through the foundation, he hopes to deliver a good quality of life for everyone and more importantly to those with disabilities.

In 2020, he ran a workshop to empower people with skills that’ll help them earn a living.

In 2017, he sponsored education for five students at his former school, Tema Methodist Day High School. This was a way for Stonebwoy to commemorate his mother who died in 2015.

Stonebwoy had a twin brother who died. Many speculated that his brother’s death was caused by an accident they experienced in 2003. Stonebwoy has since refuted those claims but is yet to state the actual cause of his brother’s death.  

As for Stonebwoy’s parents, his mother Catherine Satkela died in 2015, after being admitted to the hospital for a short while. The cause of her death is unknown or at least, Stonebwoy hasn't disclosed it to the public. 

Stonebwoy’s father is still alive. In fact, Stonebwoy has been publicly showing his affection during his birthday. Mr Satkela was born on 7 May 1946 and is now 76.

Accident

In 2003, when Stonebwoy was 13, he, his father and sisters was travelling back to Ashiaman from Accra. They had pulled over at the side of the road when a police car hit their car at the side of the road. Stonebwoy was hospitalised for six months. 

The accident affected Stonebwoy greatly. If you wonder why Stonebwoy limps, it’s not because he was born cripple. This accident left this scar on him. 

Stonebwoy disclosed that he didn't seek any medical intervention after the accident. His mother asked him not to and out of respect as he says, he listened to her. However, after her death in 2015, Stonebwoy travelled to the United States for corrective surgery. 

Controversy

Grammy Awards fiasco

In 2021, Stonebwoy found himself having to defend his Grammy Awards nominations comments. The dancehall musician stated that he received three nominations after works he featured in were up for the prestigious prize. Many people doubted him, including a well-known radio presenter, Rocky Dawuni.

Stonebwoy responded by saying that the presenter was "taking credit away from a young kid." He also claimed that Rocky Dawuni was hypocritical. In a social media post, he said he thought he changed but is still the same.

Fake YouTube views

Stonebwoy’s song “Blessing” with Vic Mensa got one million views within twenty-four hours after it was published on YouTube. However, Shatta Movement fans claimed that he bought views as the video only had just over one thousand comments. However, Stonebwoy remained unfazed as his record label BHIM celebrated this as a blessing.

Stonebwoy supports Shatta Wale

After Shatta Wale blasted Nigeria and its artists for not promoting Ghanaian music, Stonebwoy jumped in on the conversation. He supported Shatta Wale’s comments. He said that Nigeria had greater responsibility in pushing African music and making it more popular. 

Stonebwoy’s words stirred anger

Stonebwoy’s comments were not taken kindly. He was accused of deepening the rift between the two countries. He then came out and stated that he had been misinterpreted. 

In an attempt to clear his name, Stonebwoy said that Nigeria doesn’t owe anyone anything and that Ghana and Nigeria are closer than ever. He shared a video of him with Davido and Wizkid.
